Nuggets’ Jamal Murray Commits To Play For Team Canada In Summer Olympics
Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Jamal Murray confirmed that he will play for Team Canada in the Paris Olympics this summer.

Following a heartbreaking Game 7 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves, Murray was asked about his status for Paris. Despite being visibly upset about the loss, he still confirmed that he will represent his country.

An obvious great addition to Canada’s team, adding a dynamic scorer to the roster. Murray is coming off a strong 2023-24 season, averaging 21.2 points, 4.1 rebounds and 6.5 assists on 48.1% from the field and 42.5% from 3-point range:

Murray is a great second option behind Nikola Jokic and has shown his ability to play alongside a star. A plus side to being eliminated somewhat early is he can rest up before the Olympics.

However, the Olympics are a different style of play, specifically more physical than the NBA. But, adding a champion to the roster is going to strengthen Canada’s chances of competing for a medal.

An interesting storyline that could take place in Paris is Canada playing against Team USA. Team USA is expected to have a multitude of talent and some of the greatest players in the NBA.

However, Canada will have some rising stars on their roster, like Oklahoma City Thunder MVP candidate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Plus Raptors players in RJ Barrett and Kelly Olynyk, in addition to a supporting cast of proven NBA role players.

The pieces are certainly there for Canada and having a backcourt of Murray and Gilgeous-Alexander could make for a special pairing. Assuming everything comes together nicely, expect Team Canada to be in the mix when it comes to medalling this summer.
